Bassanio was the friend of Antonio. He was poor. So to remove his poverty he set his trip to Belmont where a beautiful princess named Portia marriage ceremony was going on in which there were three caskets of gold, silver and bronze in which there was a portrait of Portia. There were many prince and kings of different countries were called and were given to choose the casket in which there was the portrait of Portia and the king who will get the portrait will be allowed to marry Portia. Many kings and princes came but they couldn't find the right casket and were sentenced to death. Then came Bassanio, in first look only Portia began to love him. Bassanio chose the right casket which was bronze one. Then he was allowed to marry Portia. This was the beginning of their love story.
