lucy has 10 less than twice the sum of zeenat and jaya's coconuts. jaya has twice as many coconuts as zeenat. if lucy were to give 15 coconuts to zeenat and 5 coconuts to jaya, zeenat and jaya would each have half the number of coconuts lucy had originally. then how many coconuts zeenat had originally.

Let
Number of coconuts possessed by Lucy, Zeenat, Jaya are respectively x, y, z.

We get there equations as below from the given question.
x + 10 = 2 ( y + z) ...[1]

z = 2y ...[2]

x - 15 - 5 = x/2 = y + 15 = z + 5 ....[3]

Using z = 2y in equation (1)

x + 10 = 2 ( y + 2y )
x + 10 = 6y...[4]

From, third equation
x = 2(y+15)
x = 2y + 30 ...[5]

Substitute 5 in 4

2y + 30+ 10 = 6y
2y + 40 = 6y
4y = 40
y = 10

Now,
x = 2(10)+30 = 50
z = 2y = 20 .

Therefore,
Lucy has 50 coconuts.
Jaya has 20 coconuts
Zeenat has 10 coconuts.

Now, Checking for given conditions .
Lucy has 10 less than twice sum of Jaya and Zeenat .
50 = 2(20+10)-10 = 60-10 = 50

Jaya has twice as Zeenat.
20 = 2 ( 10 )

Lucy gives 15 to zeenat, 5 to Jaya.
then they will have zeenat = 25 , Jaya = 25 which is half of 50 .

Therefore, Lucy has 50 coconuts.
Jaya has 20 coconuts
Zeenat has 10 coconuts.

Answer:

10

Step-by-step explanation:

Zeenat = x

Jaya = 2x

Lucy = 2(x+2x)-10

From given data

2(x+2x)-((x+15)+(2x+5))=10

Solving this we'll get. X=10 as zeenat coconuts
