the distance to the marker is 2 km

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the distance to the marker be d

Given that speed of Mahmoud on the way to the marker is 5 m/s and on the way back is 4 m/s

We know that

\text{Distance}=\text{Speed}\times\text{Time}

\implies\text{Time}=\frac{\text{Distance}}{\text{Speed}}

Also,

\text{Total Time}=\text{Time taken on the way to the marker}+\text{Time taken on the way back}

\implies 15\times 60=\frac{d}{5}+\frac{d}{4}

\implies 15\times60=d(\frac{1}{5}+\frac{1}{4})

\implies 15\times 60=d(\frac{4+5}{20})

\implies 15\times 60=d(\frac{9}{20})

\implies d=\frac{15\times 60\times 20}{9} m

\implies d=2000 m

\implies d=2 km

Hope this answer is helpful.
