Answer:

5 common poetic devices used in poems are:-

  • Alliteration: It is the conspicuous repetition of identical initial consonant sounds in successive or closely associated syllables within a group of words, even those spelled differently. As a method of linking words for effect, alliteration is also called head rhyme or initial rhyme.Example:- The Crazy crow has a big brown beak.
  • Assonance: It is a resemblance in the sounds of words/syllables either between their vowels or between their consonants. However, assonance between consonants is generally called consonance in American usage. Example: He fell asleep under the cherry tree.
  • Metaphor: A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn't literally true, but helps explain an idea or make a comparison. It may provide clarity or identify hidden similarities between two different ideas. Example: Her long hair was a flowing golden river.
  • Onomatopoeia: It is the process of creating a word that phonetically imitates, resembles, or suggests the sound that it describes. Such a word itself is also called an onomatopoeia. Example: The “boom” of a firework exploding, the “tick tock” of a clock, and the “ding dong” of a doorbell
  • Personification: It occurs when a thing or abstraction is represented as a person, when human characteristics are attributed to non-human things. Example: Lightning danced across the sky.
