Given,

x = 2y---- Eq 1

In five years,

x + 5 = y+5+2 ---- Eq 2

Substitute eq 1 in 2

2y + 5 = y + 7

y = 7 - 5 = 2 years.

x = 2y = 2×2 = 4 years.

The ages of Mary and her sister are 4 years and 2 years respectively.
