me people are fatalists of the worst kind. They have a very wrong notion about God. They think that since they worship God, God will shower all kinds of blessings on them.
They remain idle in the hope that God will help them in all eventualities. Such people lose self-confidence, become miserably dependent on fate and ultimately suffer failure and ruin. God has blessed us with aptitudes, talents and faculties. He expects us to make full use of them. He cannot possibly encourage us to lead a wretched life of idleness, inaction and servitude.
He wants us to develop our personality and character to the fullest possible extent. He wants to see us physically active, mentally alert and spiritually exalted. No amount of the worship of God can please Him unless we stir about and act. God does not like those who waste away their time and energy in wishing for and dreaming of the things they do not want to earn by dint of hard work.
He will not help us if we do not help ourselves. Self-help is the greatest virtue. A self-reliant person has an iron will and a strong determination. He overcomes all hurdles and achieves success by striving incessantly.
The Gita tells us to adopt the path of "Karma Yoga". Mahatma Gandhi, George Washington and Abraham Lincoin achieved their respective goals with dedicated work. No doubt there is a tide in the affairs of men, but they have to swim across this tide. Fortune favors those who defy difficulties and overcome them by their efforts. Man is the maker of his own destiny. God is on the side of those who toil and sweat to make their destiny.
Let me now narrate you the story of The Two Frogs.
Two frogs were playing on a rainy day. Slowly, they hopped and hopped and came into a house. There was a churn of milk. Both the frogs fell into the churn. Both the frogs tried for some time, but in vain. One of the frogs lost hope and said, “I can’t swim any more" and he drowned to the bottom.
The other did not lose hope. He kept on swimming. His movements churned the milk into butter. The frog climbed on to a pat of butter and hopped out of the churn.
God helps those who help themselves.
