Election commission is an independent and powerful commission appointed by president of India for conducting free and far 3rd elections in our country. Once the members are appointed, they are not answerable to the president or the government.
It has following powers :
➡ EC takes decisions on the aspect of conduct and controls the elections from announcement of elections to the declaration of results.
➡ It has power to order the government to follow some guidelines to prevent the misuse of government powers to win the elections.
➡ It implements the code of conduct and punishes a candidate or a party if they violate it.
➡ During elections, the government officiers are under EC's control and not the government.
