In recent times, the democratic space has been shrinking in Sri Lanka. The right to dissent has been seriously imperilled. Civil society activists are punished for voicing a contrarian view to that of the Government. Abduction and incarceration of journalists and opponents of the Government without a fair trial is commonplace.
