Pro insulin is the precursor of insulin which is stored in the beta islet cells of Langerhans in the pancreas.

Removing of C chain by processing a few important products of biotechnology are alcohols ,organic acids,enzymes,vitamins,steroids ,monoclonal antibodies etc.

Basically the chemical change that proinsulin goes is cleavage of polypeptide C with the aid of two endoproteases i.e Type 1 endoproteases and type 2 endoproteases which takes place in the islets of langerhans,while pro insulin is transported through the golgi apparatus for cleavage.
