Babur was the founder of the Mughal empire and, therefore, made the most importantcontributions to the establishment of the empire. He led the Mughal forces into India and defeated the existing ruler of Delhi, Ibrahim Lodhi, in Panipat in 1526. This marked the foundation of the Mughal empire.

After the battle, Babur occupied Delhi and Agra, took the throne of Lodi, and laid the foundation for the eventual rise of Mughal rule in India. However, before he became North India's ruler, he had to fend off challengers, such as Rana Sanga.
