Spherical mirrors are found in two types i.e. the convex (diverging) mirrors and the concave (converting) mirrors.

Both these types of mirrors have their merits and demerits during applications. Merits and demerits of convex mirrors:

Examples of convex mirrors- passenger side mirror of the cars, surveillance mirrors in shops

These mirrors can be adjusted according to the vision and view required as they provide an increased area for both.

The disadvantage though in the convex mirror is that the image that is perceived is relatively smaller in size. Merits and demerits of concave mirrors:

Examples of concave mirrors- shaving and make up mirrors These mirrors have the ability to make the image appear much larger and that is the reason they are used extensively for magnification purposes.

The work involving close view is made easier with a real and larger image.

Disadvantage of using a concave mirror is that they need proper cleaning to keep the image from appearing blurred or distorted.
