Burning paper, leaves and boxes is not a correct practice as it releases pollutants that harm our health and environment.

* Combustion of paper is a chemical reaction in which oxygen in the air reacts with cellulose in the paper.

* This reaction leads to the production of carbon dioxide and water vapour. Solid ash is left behind and the environment gets polluted with the smoke generated.

* Similarly, smoke generated from the burning of leaves contains huge amounts of pollutants such as carbon monoxide that causes several health problems.

It is not a correct practice because:

Explanation:

  • Paper, leaves and boxes are composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.
  • Burning them would release the carbon into the atmosphere in the form of gases like carbon dioxide, methane and hydrogen in the form of water vapour.
  • These gases which are carbon dioxide, methane and water vapour are green- house gases.
  • Hence, they can trap solar energy in them.
  • This can cause Global Warming and Climate Change.
