Yes, I agree that Rafferty was very ambitious.

When he found out that real aliens had visited the Alsops, he immediately wanted to take pictures as it would gain him fame and recognition.

Even after the aliens left, he was desperate for some sort of proof and keeps questioning Mr. Alsop about it.

When he finds out the star ducks eggs, he is excited.

Soon, he’s disappointed to learn that the Alsops had eaten the star ducks for Thanksgiving and not even the bones were available as proof.

When Rafferty realises that he can not prove that aliens visited the Alsops, he is completely dejected and accepts his fate.
