The smaller drum, played with the dominant hand, is sometimes called dayan (literally "right"), dāhina, siddha or chattū, but is correctly called the "tabla." It is made from a conical piece of mostly teak and rosewood hollowedout to approximately half of its total depth.

The tabla is a South Asian membranophone percussioninstrument (similar to bongos), consisting of a pair of drums, used in traditional, classical, popular and folk music.
