GIVEN :

  • My age is 5 more than square of age of my son.
  • After 5 years my age will five years more than trice age of my son.

TO FIND :

  • My present age.

SOLUTION :

Let my son's present age be x years and my present age be y years.

CASE 1

My age is 5 more than square of my son's age.

My age = (+5) years

According to the question,

y = x²+5............(i)

CASE 2

After 5 years,

My age = (y+5) years

My son's age = (x+5) years

After 5 years my age will five years more than trice age of my son.

According to the question,

y+5 = 3(x+5)+5

† Putting y=+5 from eq(i) †

→ x²+5 +5= 3x+15+5

→ x² - 3x = 10

→x² -3x -10= 0

→ x ² -(5-2)x -10=0

→ x ² -5x +2x-10=0

→ x(x-5)+2(x-5) = 0

→ (x-5) (x+2) = 0

Either ,

x - 5 = 0

→ x = 5

Or,

x + 2 = 0

→ x = -2

Son's present age = 5 years.

My present age = 5² +5 = 30 years.

Therefore , my present age is 30 years.

\large\underline\mathrm{my \: present \: age \: is \: 30 \: years.}

\large\underline\mathrm{Given:-}

  • My age is 5 more than square of age of my son.
  • After 5 years my age will five years more than trice age if my son.

\large\underline\mathrm{To \: find}

  • My present age.

\large\underline\mathrm{Solution}

  • Let my son's present age be x years and my present age y years.
  • my age is 5 more than square of my son's age.

\implies my age = (x² + 5).

\large\underline\mathrm{A/Q}

\implies y + x² + 5_______(1)

\large\underline\mathrm{After \: 5 \: year's,}

\implies my age = (y + 5) years.

\implies my son's age = (x + 5) years.

\large\underline\mathrm{After \: 5 \: years \: my \: age \: will \: five \: years \: more \: than \: twice \:age \: of \: my \: son.</p><p>}

\implies y + 5 = 3(x + 5) + 5

\impliesputting y = x² + 5 Eq.____(1)

\implies x² + 5 + 5 = 3x + 15 + 5

\implies x² - 3x = 10

\implies x² - 3x - 10 = 0

\implies x²- (5 - 2)x - 10 = 0

\implies x² - 5x + 2x - 10 = 0

\implies x(x - 5) + 2(x - 5) = 0

\implies (x - 5)(x + 2)

\implies x + 5 = 0

\implies x = 5

\implies x + 2 = 0

\implies x = -2

\impliesson's present age = 5 years

\impliesmy present age = 5² + 5 = 30years

\large\underline\mathrm{hence,}

\large\underline\mathrm{my \: present \: age \: is \: 30 \: years.}
