My lost dollar contains a message for all of us. What lesson does the author wish us to learn through the story? What do you think is the actual purpose behind the "Back to honewsty" movement that he suggest?

The "Back to honesty movement" refers to the practice of borrowing and lending. It is a natural tendency to borrow money from our friends, but forget to return it. Stephen Leacock, the author, says that he should start a back to honesty movement, so that every borrower does not forget to return or lend what he has taken. In the story, he refers to his friend, Major Todd, to start a "Back to honesty movement".

Answer:

The lesson which the author of the wishes us to learn from the story is that small or big, one should return the money owed to others.  That amount may be important for the lender.   Further, it gives a great pain to the lender, if the borrower totally forgets about money borrowed.  An honest man remembers the help done by friends.
