Explanation:

This is the definition of first world problems. We go to a beach in North Carolina for a week at my sister in law and her husband’s house. For free. Before they owned a house there, they rented one every year and invited family, and never asked anyone for a dime. Everyone of course brought food and liquor and cooked and cleaned and bought groceries. It's a clean, quiet, sleepy beach town. Everyone seems to really enjoy it.

Except me.

I viscerally hate it. I've begged and pleaded and suggested alternatives and can't get out of it. We all get along well. I've never had an ill word said to me by the hosts. I get along with them and the other 8 or 10 guests and all the kids have a ball.

Except me.

It is NOT a vacation. It is playing house in someone else's house. I have a house to take care of. I don't want to have to do it on “vacation".

I hate the 500 mile drive. I hate having to make my bed when I get there I hate having to go grocery shopping the day you get there. And almost every day thereafter. I hate packing the car with paper goods and condiments and soft drinks we need for the week. I hate cooking every meal and having to eat leftovers as soon as lunch the next day. I hate we have to wash every dish. I hate walking down 3 sets of stairs to take out the trash. I hate dragging beach gear back and forth every day. I hate the beach in general. I do not find it fun. I just don't. I hate packing up uneaten food to drive home another 500 miles. I hate having to share our room with my kids because the house is full (no private time). I hate stepping over an air mattress to get to the bathroom. There is nothing else to do in this town. There is no boardwalk, no central gathering place, no entertainment to go and do and have an experience. Just a beach and housework. Did I mention the laundry? The machines never stop!

I will gladly pay for anything else. I'd pay not to go. I am dreading what I'm sure will be the most repetitive, irritating vacation ever!
