The amount of matter an object has is known as mass. As, Mass can be measured using a common balance that has both hands suspended; on one other hand the unknown mass is put, and the other hand carries some known mass until the rod that hangs both the masses is straight.

The moments of the weight principle governs this balance. The equilibrium is attended when the weight becomes balanced.
