ruhisayyad0046: So far rooftop rain water harvesting had been made mandatory for government institutions in Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh., Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Chandigarh, Daman and Diu, NCT Delhi and Puducherry.

Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Orissa, Jharkhand, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar are in the process of making such provisions in building by-laws.

While no state has made it mandatory for all buildings, it is now mandatory for building beyond specific size, hotels, malls and hospitals in major urban areas.

Rooftop rainwater harvesting systems are now mandatory for new buildings in 18 of India’s 28 states and four of its seven federally-administered union territories.
