1) Ammonia gas, NH3(g) has no colour.
2) Ammonia gas has a characteristic pungent smell.
3) Ammonia gas will turn moist litmus paper from red to blue,
and moist universal indicator paper to blue.
It is alkaline in water, pH = 11·5.
4) Ammonia gas will put out a lit splint.

Ammonia will form a white smoke

TESTS FOR AMMONIA
- It turns moist red litmus blue and moist turmeric paper brown.
- It gives brown precipitate with ''NESSLER'S REAGENT''
- With a frop of HCl it produces dense white fumes of ammonium chloride.
- With copper sulphate solution, it gives a deep blue solution.
- It gives yellow precipitate with chloroplatinic acid.
