The techniques of organized pressure, through mass campaigns, demonstrations, strikes, civil disobedience (satyagrahd), gheraos and bandhs, have been frequently used by interest groups.Myron Weiner (1962) has rightly observed that the very frequency, with which mass action has succeeded in vetoing government action, or in positively modifying public policy, has strengthened the public belief that such measures are both desirable and effective. Violence and anomic activities have become an instrument of interest articulation in the so-called developing nations, including India.

A Interest/pressure group or vested groups is a group of people who are organised actively for promoting and defending their common interest. It is called so, as it attempts to bring a change in public policy by exerting pressure on the government. It acts as a liaison between the government and its members.
