Methane(CH4)- 50 - 75%, Carbon dioxide(CO2)- 25-50%, Nitrogen(N2)-0-10%, Hydrogen(H2)-0-1%, Hydrogen Sulfide(H2S)-0-3%, Oxygen(O2)-0-0%In some cases, biogascontains siloxanes. These siloxanes are formed from the anaerobic decomposition of materials commonly found in soaps and detergents.

Biogas is a mixture of methane, carbon dioxide, hydrogen, hydrogen sulphide.

Following steps are involved in obtaining biogas:

i) Mixing (Slurry of cattle-dung and water)

ii) Digesting (decomposition of cattle-dung by anaerobic bacteria)

iii) Formation of biogas

iv) Residue left after the formation of biogas.
