Specialized cells known as guard cells surround stomata and function to open and close stomatal pores. Stomata allow a plant to take in carbon dioxide, which is needed for photosynthesis. They also help to reduce water loss by closing when conditions are hot or dry.

Stomata have alots of tiny pores which is responsible for photosynthesis because it allows to take carbondioxide.

At the day time these tiny pores opens in the presence of sunlight and at night .and thats why at night plants are not able to make their food because of the absence of sunlight. and thats why stomata close & open.

there is a specailized cell know as gaurd cell which helps the stomata to close and open them.
