Gravitational Force and Centrifugal Force are responsible for circular motion around the earth. The moon's magnetic force attracts earth towards itself. That is why moon can rotate around the earth.

Hope this helps !!!

The name force responsible for the circular motion of the moon around the earth is a Centripetal Force In The Form Of Gravitational Force.

  • According to Newton’s laws of motion, we can say that when a force is applied to a body then the body gets accelerated in the direction of the applied force.

  • When a body is in a circular motion be it uniform or non-uniform then there is a force that is exerted on the body which attracts it towards the centre of the circular path and this force is known as the centripetal force. So we can say that the centripetal force is responsible for the circular motion of the body similarly, in the case of the moon the earth exerts force in the form of gravitational force and the centripetal force is responsible for the circular motion of the moon.

  • And from the Law Of Gravitation, we can say that the earth exerts a gravitational force on the moon. Thus, we can infer that the earth exerts a centripetal force in the form of gravitational force on the moon due to which the moon endures a circular motion with some centripetal acceleration.
