The 4 major states which the part of the 'eastern coastal plain' are:

  • Andhra Pradesh
  • Tamil Nadu
  • West Bengal
  • Odisha

And the two divisions are

The Mahanadi Delta:

Chhattisgarh and Orissa are the largest rivers of the region. Mahanadi's name in the ancient times was Chintovapalala. Delta of Mahanadi starts about seven miles east of Katak Nagar.

From here it divides into several streams and meets in the Bay of Bengal. The main dams on this are: Rudri, Gangrel and Hirakud. The river also determines the boundaries of eastern Madhya Pradesh and Orissa.

Coromandel Coast:

The 'Coromandel' Coast is the name given to the 'southeastern coastline' of the 'Indian Peninsula'. This area has been ruled by the Chola Dynasty.

Chol region or division was called Chola-Mandala in Tamil from there the Portuguese and the French people have spoiled the name of the Coromandel.
