Chlor-alkali process
Explanation:
When electricity is passed through an aqueous solution of sodium chloride (NaCl or brine), it decomposes to form sodium hydroxide. This process is called the chlor-alkali process. The three products formed during a chlor-alkali process are Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH or caustic soda), chlorine (Cl) and hydrogen (H). The process is given this name because the resultant products is Chlorine (so the word Chlor) and Sodium Hydroxide (an alkali).
