The name of the song composed by Rabindra Nath Tagore during the anti partition agitation was "Amar Sonar Bangla".

'Amar Sonar Bangla' ("My Golden Bengal") was written by Bengali poet Rabindra Nath Tagore. The word 'Sonar' literally means made of golden but in the song sonar Bangla may be interpreted to either express the preciousness of of Bengal or refer to the colour of paddy fields before harvest.

The song was written in 1905 during the partition of Bengal, when the ruling British Empire divided India's Province of Bengal into two parts. This decision was announced on 19th July by the then Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon. The division of Bengal was on communal basis. The Bengal was divided into two parts namely East Bengal and West Bengal. The East Bengal had a majority of Muslims and the West Bengal had a majority of Hindus.

Along with a host to others, such song as this were meant to rekindle the unified spirit of Bengal, to raise public consciousness against the communal politics of British Government. The first ten lines of this song constitute Bangladesh's National Anthem, adopted in 1971 during its liberation war.
