Sodium hydroxide a strong base and HCl, a strong acid react to form sodium chloride and water. This is a neutralisation reaction in which acids react with bases to form salt and water. So therefore sodium chloride is neutral. NaOH + HCl -> NaCl + H2O

When hydrochloric acid reacts with sodium hydroxide solution, then a neutralisation reaction takes place to form sodium chloride and water. Such reaction is called Neutralisation reaction.
