Nandini's mother has a square piece of cloth of area 1638cm 2 . She wants know whether she can make a square bed sheet of side 35cm. If that is not possible, she wants to know what is the maximum length of the side of a square bed sheet that she can make from this piece with minimal wastage?

area of the sheet whose side is 35 cm= 1225 cm2
which is less than total cloth

so, maximum use of cloth we can take sheet side = 40cm

area of the sheet whose side is 40cm2=1600cm2

wastage = 1638-1600
= 38cm2
