had two dogs. One is no longer with me and was taken too soon. She was a 8 year old lab. I've had many memorable moments with both my dogs, Scooby and Tawny. I think one that sticks with me is the fact that Tawny always knew when I was not feeling well or when I was not in a great place mentally. She would come rest her face on my knees and stay that way and get me to pet her or come lie next to me when I am in bed unwell. Even in her last days when she was dealing with dilated cardiomyopathy, she retained all the best qualities about her. I was away when she breathed her last (something I still can't get over). She had not eaten a morsel for a week after I left and passed away on the 8th day.
Scooby is an Indian dog. He's around 5 and we took him when his mom left him behind. He's a timid but immensely intelligent kid. We don't leash him. He prefers to be independent. When I started working 3 years ago, I would walk about a km to get to the bus stop. Every morning he would walk with me, sit at the stop at a distance while I spoke to friends/colleagues. He would wait till the bus arrived and then as I would find a seat and look out the window, I would see him turn around and head home. I would then receive a call from mom in say 5-7 min saying he was back home..safe. Every day he did this. For close to a year, till I took the bus. Even today, he accompanies me on early morning runs, visit to the nearby supermarket. He had NO formal training.
