⚡Net capacitance of three identical capacitors in series is 1micro F. What will be there net capacitance If connected in parallel.
Find the ratio of the energy stored in the two configuration if they are both connected to the same source.​

Answer : 1:9

Given,

Net capacitance of three identical in series is 1 micro F.

In series we know,

\frac{1}{C}=\frac{1}{C1}+\frac{1}{C2}+\frac{1}{C3}

For ideal condition,

C1 = C2 = C3 = Cr (let)

\frac{1}{C}=\frac{3}{Cr}

Given in the question C = 1,

Cr = 3 micro F (from above)  

In case of parallel,

C = C1 + C2 + C3

C = 3 + 3+ 3  

 = 9 micro F

As per the question ,

Ratio of the energy stored in two configurations,

= energy stored in case of series / energy stored in case of parallel

=  ½ CV^{2}  /  ½ CV^{2}

= ½ * 1* V^{2}  /  ½ * 9 * V^{2}

= 1 / 9

= 1 : 9

C1 = C2 = C3 = Cr

C1 = Cr3

C = 1,

Micro F (Cr=3)

C = C1 + C2 + C3

C = 3 + 3+ 3

= 9 micro

= ½ CV^2CV 2 /½ CV^2CV 2

= ½ =1= V^2V 2 / ½= 9= V^2V 2

= 1 / 9

Hence now ration convection

= 1 : 9
