The thief ran 100 m before the policeman started. So the distance to be covered by policeman is '100 m'. The relative speed of police and thief is 10 m/s. It means the police ran 10 m more than the thief in the first minute.
Read it as 10m/min in the above line. In every minute, the policeman increases his speed by 5 m/min.
1st min = 10 m more. 2nd min= 15 more than previous and so on.... 10+15+20+25+30 = 100 m... Time = 5 minutes
