Solution :-
Step 1) :- work out the arithmetic mean of the numbers .
- Total numbers = 2
- Sum = 36 + 8 = 44
- Arithmetic mean = Sum / Total numbers = 44/2 = 22.
Step 2) :- Take each number, subtract the mean and square the result .
- Differences = (36 - 22) = 14, (8 - 22) = (-14). (Every Number minus Mean)
- (Differences)² = (14)² = 196, (-14)² = 196 (Square of each difference)
Step 3) :- Now calculate the Variance .
- Sum of (Differences)² = 196 + 196 = 392
- Variance = (Sum of Differences)² / Total numbers = (392/2) = 196 .
Step 4) :- Take the square root of the Variance .
- Standard Deviation = √(Variance) = √(196) = 14.
Therefore, standard deviation in degree centigrade was 14. (Option B).
