Hi ,

This word problem related to algebraic equations.

Read the question carefully understand relations between them .

Let the second number = x

Second number is twice the first.

Therefore

First nubmer = second number /2 = x /2

Second is thrice the third means,

Third number = second / 3 = x/3

Average of three numbers = 44

( x/2 + x + x /3 ) / 3= 44

since average = ( sum of the observations ) / ( number of observations )

x/2 + x + x /3 = 3 × 44

Find the LCM of 2 and 3 = 2 × 3 = 6

( 3x + 6x + 2x ) / 6 = 132

11x / 6 = 132

Multiply both sides with 6/ 11 we get

(6/11) × ( 11 / 6 ) × x = ( 132 /1 ) × ( 6 / 11 )

x = 12 × 6

x = 72

Now

First number = x / 2 = 72 / 2 = 36

Second number = x = 72

Third number = x / 3 = 72 / 3 = 24

The largest number = 72

I hope thos will help you.

Answer: 72

(X+2X+2X/3)/3 = 44

11X = 44*9

X = 4*9

X = 36

so, 2X ==> 36*2 ==> 72
