Perhaps your question is  to simplify
[5^(a+2)]  - (5^a) + 1
= [(5^a)x(5²)] - (5^a) + 1
=25x(5^a) - 1x(5^a) + 1
= (25 - 1)x(5^a) + 1
= 24x(5^a) + 1

5^{a+2} - 5^{a+1} = 5^a * 5^2 - 5^a * 5^1 = 25 * 5^a - 5 * 5^a = \\ \\= 5^a (25 - 5 ) = 20 * 5^a
