let the price of a cup of coffee is x.
so,price of ten cup coffee= 10x.
and,let the price of a cup of doughnut is y
so,price of 5 cups of doughnuts =5y.

on Monday,
10x +5y= 16.50$ (eq. 1)
on Tuesday,
5x + 10y= 14.25$ (eq.2)

after multiplying by 2 in equation 1 and subtract eq.2,we get

20x + 10y =33$
- (5x + 10y)=- 14.25$

15x =18.75$

x =18.75$/ 15

x =1.25$

so the price of a cup of coffee=x =1.25$.
