Once there lived three friends in a pond near a forest . They were two cranes and a tortoise. They lived happily. One day the cranes said to the tortoise, The rains have not fallen this year . The pond we live in will soon get dry. We will have to leave this pond and go go to some other pond.

The tortoise said I also want to leave this pond .I do not want to remain away from you. I would like to go with you but I cannot fly like you.
we can Carry you said the cranes . If you do not open your mouth and keep mum we can take you with us . That will be easy , said the tortoise.
The two cranes brought a thin strong stick. They said to the tortoise, Hold it fast in your mouth. we will Carry the stick one on each and fly . But if you open your mouth, you Wii fall . The tortoise held the stick in its mouth. The cranes caught the end of the stick in their beaks and flew across the sky.
The tortoise was heavy, so the cranes could not fly very high.
Soon they were flying over a town . Some children were playing in the field. When the children saw the cranes carrying the tortoise, they began to shout , Look! Look ! Two cranes are carrying a tortoise.
The tortoise became very happy. It opened its mouth to express it's joy and at once fell to the ground and died then and there.
