The first part of the course deals with pharmacy orientation and includes general aspects of prescriptions and handling of drug preparations as well as administrative aspects relevant for pharmacists. The second part of the course deals with the principles of physical pharmacy, Physical properties of drug molecules, solubility, dissolution and buffering, partition coefficient, viscosimetry, stability, drug release, rheology, preparation of different dosage forms, vehicles, industrial aspects of manufacture. The practical course includes determination of critical solution temperature, solubilization, viscosity determination, hydrophilic/lipophilic balance, partition coefficient of some compounds and the determination of solubility product.
