Some people think that the automobile has improved modern life, and others think that it has caused serious problems. In my opinion, the automobile, despite its obvious benefits, has caused serious problems.Among its other problems, the automobile is harmful to the environment,it is dangerous, and it is expensive.

First of all,the automobile is harmful to the environment. For example,in order to make way for ther construction of highways, many forests have had to be cut down.Furthermore, the gas-consuming automoblie has caused a great deal of pollution. For instance, the smelting of steal, needed for making the automobile, has also caused a great deal of pollution.

In addition, the automobile is dangerous. For example, pedestrians and cyclists get run over by cars every day.Furthermoure, drivers,as well as,passengers, get killed every day in accidents.Statistically,it is more dangerous to travel by car than by airplane. For instance, even certain features built into a car, which are designed to make driving the vehicle safer, can prove to be hazardous. The safety air bag, which is known to have caused fatalities,is a case in point.

Finally, the automobile is expensive. For example, insurance costs, especially for beginner drivers, can be very steep.Futhermore, the cost of the car itself can set the purchaser back many thousands of dollars. For instance, the costs of just keeping the car on the road-costs of fuel and upkeep-add up very quickly.Perhaps,it is the cost of the automobile that poses the most serious problem of all.

In summaty, the automobile causes serious problems, not least of which is the harm it does to the environment. Moreover,it is dangerous to both the driver and the passenger, and to both the pedestrian and the cyclist. Finally,it is very costly to own and maintain.
