Parth was observing living cells of onion in Bio Lab and he observed cell wall, cytoplasm, and
nucleus clearly. Suddenly his friend spilled a few drops of salt water on the slide. After some
time Parth observed the slide and found some changes:
(a) What would have been the change in the living cells of onion peel after adding salt
water?

a)The cells will shrink inside the cytoplasm as water will go from higher concentration in onion cells to lower in salt water solution.

b)The process is osmosis.

I hope it helped u!

Answer:

a) When Parth 's friend spilled salt solution he actually made the medium for onion peel cells hypertonic .

Which means that the concentration of solute outside the cells is more than inside the cell which will lead to exosmosis i.e the movement of water from the cells to outside the media.

Thus the onion peel cell will now become flaccid or plasmolysed due to the shrinkage of the cell content and when seen in microscope.

b)This process is known as exosmosis i.e the movement of water molecules from the cells to the outside medium.

the condition of such cell is known as flaccid or plasmolysed Cell where the cell contents shrinks.

Hope it helps you!
