Shakespeare's Sonnets Summary and Analysis of Sonnet 55 - "Not marble, nor the gilded monuments" Statues and monuments will not last as long as this poem; "But you shall shine more bright in these contents / Than unswept stone, besmear'd with time." ... So you will live in this poem until judgment day.

"Pen is mightier than sword " .This line is of the poem ' Not marble Noor gilded monuments ' by William Shakespeare. The poet through the above line conveys his belief on the power of a pen . He sees poetry as more powerful than swords as it can sustain the ravages of time and lives forever till the ( last day ) dooms day. Poetries written by people lasts for generations unlike the monuments that loose their shine and lustre and gets destroyed with the passage of time .
