my answer according to your question is;-
The first thing they have to face is the sympathy they get from others which they really never want. Give them strength not sympathy. They want to live their life the way everybody lives. They also go through many struggles as we do and also have the potential to make their dream true. I think we should treat them the way we treat everyone else and not differently. It will make them feel more comfortable and also make them feel more happy. Most importantly they are not 'disabled' but they are "differently abled".
