The physical properties of halogens (group 7 elements in the periodic table):

All halogens are coloured. For example, chlorine is a green gas. Bromine is brownish red. Iodine is dark purple. The lower you go down the group the darker the colour of the halogen gets.

The states halogens are in at room temperature varies and there is a trend in state down the group. Fluorine and chlorine are gases, bromine is a liquid, iodine and astatine are solids.

Melting and boiling point is generally low and increases down the group.

The group of halogens is the only periodic table group which contains elements in all three familiar states of matter at standard temperature and pressure .

The halogens all have a strong and often nasty smell.

The halogen elements are extremely toxic .

Poor conductors of heat and electricity .

Low melting and boiling points.

Their Ionisation enthalpy , Electronegativity and Electron affinity decreases down the group.
