KMnO₄ acts as an oxidising agent so it oxidises oxalic acid to form CO₂ gas and itself changes to Mn²⁺ ion which is colourless.
✔️Here is the chemical reaction taking place in this process :-
5C₂O₄²⁻ + 2MnO⁻₄+ 16H⁺ ----> 2Mn²⁺ + 8H₂O + 10CO₂
Where, 2MnO²⁻₄ => Coloured
and 2Mn²⁺ => Colourless
