The GMT stands for Greenwich Mean Time and IST stands for Indian Standard Time. GMT is also known as Greenwich Meridian Time because it is measured from the Greenwich Meridian Line, whereas IST (Indian Standard Time) refers to the time observed in all of India and Sri Lanka.
