Answer: momentum p = mv

i). initial momentum = 0.05 kg x 100m/s = 5 kgm/s

ii) finally the bullet comes to rest, v = 0

final momentum = 0.05kg x 0m/s = 0

iii) distance traveled by bullet before stopping is 2cm

using v² - u² = 2as

a = v² - u²/2s = 0² - 100²/2x0.02 = -10⁴/4x10⁻² = -2.5 x 10⁵ m/s²

the retardation is 2.5 x 10⁵ m/s²

iv) resistive force by the wooden block is F = ma

m = 0.05kg and a = -2.5 x 10⁵ m/s²

F = 0.05kg x (-2.5 x 10⁵ m/s²) = -12500N

the resistive force is 12500N
