suppose we have to calculate a mean of 2 , 3 and 4..
2, 3 and 4 are the observations...
Sum of obs = 2 + 3 + 4 = 9
No. of Obs = 3
Mean = Sum of all Obs(observations) / no. of obs
= 9 / 3
= 3 ( original Mean )
now if we multiply each observation by non zero number say a = 2...Then new Obs becomes
2 x 2 = 4
3 x 2 = 6
4 x 2 = 8
Now lets calculate Mean of above Obs...
Sum of obs = 4 + 6 + 8 = 18
No. of obs = 3
New Mean = 18 / 3 = 6 = 2 x 3 = a x Original Mean (See above )
This means that if you have some observations and you calculate the MEAN...and if you multiply each observation with any non zero number and Calculation the MEAN you would get your MEAN as ORIGINAL Mean times the non zero number.....
