In Calcination carbonate ores are heated in the limited supply of oxygen .On the other hand in roasting sulphide ores are strongly heated in the presence of excess oxygen ..Let's take examples of both
1.) Roasting - HgS + O2 gives SO2 + Hgo
then after reducing HGO you will get HG ie.mercury
2.)Calcination - when znco3 is heated then it gives CO2 +ZNO
then when zno is reduced you will get zinc ie. zn

It is just explanation:-
The metal in the middle of reactivity series are usually present as sulphide or carbonate in nature.

It is easier to obtain a metal from its oxide, as compared to sulphide or carbonate. Therefore prior rediction the metal sulphide and carbonate are converted into metal oxide.

NOW HERE IS YOUR DEFINITION:-

When we strongly heat the metal sulphide ore to convert it into metal oxide in presence of excess air then it is known as Roasting.
Ex:- 2ZnS+3O2 --------------> 2ZnO +2SO2

Calcination:- When we strongly heat metal carbonate ores to convert them into metal oxide in limited amount of air then it is known as calcination.

Ex- ZnCO3------> ZnO+CO2

Hope it helps.
If you satisfied mark it brainliest.

And all the best for your exam.
