As 3500 is to be shared among three people, so that the first get 50% of the second, who in turn get 50% of the third. Find the share of each.

Solution:

Let, the 3 persons as P¹, P², P³.

And let, P¹ share = x

then, P² share = 2x

(because P¹ = 50% of P²)

then, P³ share = 4x

(because P² = 50% of P³)

Given, P¹ + P² + P³ = 3500

x + 2x + 4x = 3500

7x = 3500

x = 500

∴ P¹ share = x = 500

P² share = 2x = 1000

P³ share = 4x = 2000
