Because of the upasargas, the meaning of the dhatu (i.e. verb stem) changes, for ex. the original stem here is हृ-ह‌र‌. Original meaning is to capture, seize, etc

प्र‌हार‌, आहार‌, संहार‌, विहार‌, प‌रिहार‌ are the words made by adding the prefixes प्र‌, आ, स‌म्, वि, प‌रि respectively before the verb stem, whose meaning is completely different from that of the original dhatu.
